Up north with Liesl and Ingrid.

We had a great time at the cottage. We went kayaking on the lake three times. We took Liesl to the park twice in the kayak. Sunday we were rained on and the boats are still drying. Photos are on Liesl's baby site. She was so cute in her life jacket and parasol and sun glasses. She loved playing in the water and looking for water lillies.
Ingrid treated me to a pedicure at the local Nails place. It was nice to have my feet pampered again. Thank You Ingrid.
Bob was up north with some friends for the weekend playing sniper golf which consists of shooting golf balls at about 200 yards.

AMA

Today Steve,Barb,Kaethe and I kayaked the Cass River. It was a slow moving river so it took us 3 hours to go 7 miles. I took my cast off and wrapped it as good as possible. everyone gave me a hand to make it a success. We had dinner after kayaking in Vassar at Betty Lou's. They had the best wet burritos there. We had difficult time finding place to put in and take out and ultimately put in at M46 roadside park and out at the campground in vassar. The put in point at Chambers bridge would have been difficult at best. If my foot was not in a cast it would have been doable. It was a nice float down the river. It required a lot more paddling than we wanted. My foot was beggining to hurt by the end of the trip.

Still disabled but may go AMA

Well today they took the cast off my foot to be replaced by a hard boot which will act as the cast for the next 2.5 weeks. I can take the boot off to shower, sleep and just sit but not supposed to do anything else without it. I plan to kayak tomorrow and keep my foot immobile with ace bandages etc. The group has promised to help me in and out of the river. I guess two more weeks may not be too bad.... I guess surgery would be worse.
Ingrid and I are planning to go up north for a couple of days. My father will be so excited to see Liesl. He has not seen her since he went home in May.
Liesl and I had a great day yesterday at the Children's Zoo at Belle Isle and playing at the play scape at the mall. Ingrid and I took her to the show to see Toy Story 3. She did great. She especially liked the Barbie and Ken.

Fathers Day Weekend

We had a mini vacation at the boat and up north this weekend. It began with Clara, Barb and I riding up to the boat and playing dice till the wee hours. Bob arrive shortly after 11. We managed to kill most of a bottle of Margaritas and some munchies Wednesday night. Needless to say the Margaritas did not survive the weekend. Thursday morning Bob Clara and Barb went for a 34 mile bike ride to Lexington and back. We stopped at the mother in law bridge in Croswell and had lunch in Lexington. Bob showed the girls Lexington park.
Friday they went for a bike ride to Forrester and back at about 24 miles. Later that evening Bob and I raced with the sailboat. Since we did not have our sails up yet we were about 45 minutes late to the start. The weather and sailing were wonderful. Saturday we raced again. We had a very poor start so that means there will need to be lots of practice till we get it right.
Saturday we headed up north to see my father for the Fathers Day weekend. He appears to be doing well and was very appreciative of the home cooking. Barb met us up there on Sunday afternoon and showed us her new bike.
I am so looking forward to getting my cast off my foot and getting back into some of the usual activities like bike riding and kayaking. I was so jealous of the rest of the group as they did their rides this weeknd. But enjoyed the games in the evening and was so glad to share a part of the adventure by being the sag wagon. Sister Barb has planned a little kayak trip on the Cass river this Friday and Clara and I plan to join Barb, Kathy, and Steve.
We arrived home about 5:30 and Scott took us to dinner at our favorite resturaunt in the area, Kruse and Muir. Perfect ending to a wonderful weekend. Thank you Scott for making your dad's Fathers day.

On the disabled list

Not much to tell here for the last few weeks. I have had a cast on my foot because of an old achilles injury which we are trying to treat conservatively. I say conserviative because the next option will be surgery if it doesn't heal. I have been more active than I should be probably but I can't stand to sit still for long. Today I am getting a new cast put on. The only excitement in my life is to pick the new color. This weekend Clara may be picking me up for a Art fair here in Washington. Bob has left me for a few days up north at a Star Party with the WAS. Unfortunately he took the big car with automatic transmission so I am stuck bumming rides for a few days. It will be fine on the weekend when Ing is home. I also traded cars with her on the days I watched Liesl.
Liesl has been a joy this week. She did some watercoloring on Monday and we played a lot with her blocks. She loves her dolls and the new blanket aunt Glory crocheted for them. She likes me to wrap her doll in the blanket and then she tries to hum and sing rock a bye baby. She is putting more words together.

Tuesday June 1, 2010

Today Bob, Gloria, Liesl and I went to the Ford Rouge plant tour. It was a lot more interesting than I thought it would be. I had wanted to go for several years but did not expect it to be so good. I was expecting a dry museum and was pleasantly surprised by the working plant. Liesl was enthrolled with all the goings on and was interested in watching every part of the assembly of the F150 truck. We also saw the green roof on top of the plant. Afterward we went down to the wetlands created by water from the porous parking lot and walked the trail. Liesl enjoyed walking and sitting in the tall grass.
